After a car accident, the insurance company for the other driver is going to call you, likely with a young, friendly voice on the phone asking for a statement. They should identify themselves, what company that they are with and ask that you talk to them about the accident. They may ask such questions as How were you feeling that day? What was the weather like? Do you take any medications? Have you ever texted while driving?
It’s important to keep your guard up when talking to the other driver’s insurance company. Say only what is necessary to tell them how the accident happened and answer questions briefly. Refer them to your insurance company or your attorney. Be mindful of the fact that in talking to you, the insurance company may be trying is to get you to say something that puts you at fault for the accident. You should be truthful and cooperate, but only tell them the basic facts of what happened and why ou feel that you are not at fault.
Your insurance company may also call you about the accident. You are required to cooperate fully with your own insurance company. They may ask for a statement and you need to cooperate or your claim may not be able to be processed.
